Lighting enhances indoor and  outdoor environment quality

Many perceive Lighting mainly as a driver for energy efficiency. While this indeed remains one of the core values for the lighting industry, quality of our lighting has a direct and indirect impact on our health, well-being, and productivity.

Understanding White Light Source Color Rendering

In the lighting industry, two metrics are used to communicate the color properties of a light source: the color rendering index (CRI) and the correlated color temperature (CCT). The CRI is used as an indicator of how accurately a light source renders the colors of illuminated objects compared to a reference light source, while the CCT is used to describe the tint of the illumination provided by the source.

To better understand how CRI can affect the color rendition of objects, try moving the slider in the simulation below. The image on the left shows how colors appear under a low CRI light source, while the image on the right simulates the same objects under a higher CRI light source.

It's important to note that the CRI and CCT of a light source are independent of each other. A light source can have a high CCT and a low CRI or vice versa. Understanding the difference between these two metrics can help you choose the right lighting solutions for your needs, whether it's for commercial, industrial, or residential settings.

At MD Lighting, we understand the importance of both CRI and CCT in creating optimal lighting solutions. That's why we offer a range of products that are carefully engineered to meet the highest standards of both metrics. Our team of experts is always available to answer any questions you may have about lighting solutions and help you choose the right products for your needs.
